A neat and tidy midfielder, and another graduate from Luton's Youth set-up, Michael signed his second professional contract in the summer of 2003 after serving his apprenticeship with the club. A central midfielder from Greenford in London, he was spotted by former youth team manager Paul Lowe playing for Ruislip Manor, and was invited for pre-season trials in the summer 2000. He scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Rushden & Diamonds as a trialist, and also impressed against Queen's Park Rangers, and initially joined the club on non-contract terms, before later being upgraded to a full contract.Michael demonstrated his versatility in his first season, appearing with great aplomb as a full-back, winger or central midfielder for the U-19's. Never afraid to get stuck in, he imposed his presence on the squad, and by the end of the season was selected by then Hatters boss Joe Kinnear as one to watch at a Luton Town Supporters' Club meeting. He started the 2001-02 season in the Youth team, but by October was elevated to the Reserve squad along with other young professionals Joe Bruce and Daryl Murphy – both of whom were later released.
Michael made his first-team debut for the Hatters during the 2002-03 season as he played in Luton’s midfield in a 2-0 win at Woking in the LDV Vans Trophy First Round in late October 2002.
He made his second and final outing of the campaign in the Second Round of the same competition as Luton won 4-3 at Broadhall Way against neighbours Stevenage Borough.
Michael was also an unused substitute for the first-team on a number of occasions and he was a regular for the reserve side throughout the campaign. Always highly thought of by former Hatters boss Joe Kinnear, Michael was handed a new two-year contract at the tail end of the season, and he would be hoping that he can establish himself as a regular member of Luton’s squad during the 2003-04 campaign – and he did just that.
Although he didn't play that many matches, Michael was always a member of the Hatters first-team squad, sitting on the bench on a whole host of occasions and he also featured several times in the starting eleven, as well as making several substitute appearances. He netted three goals at senior level during the course of the campaign, slotting home a penalty in a 2-1 LDV Vans Trophy Southern Section, Second Round win at Rushden & Diamonds in early November 2003 and then a brace of goals in a 3-4 League loss at Hartlepool United in April 2004.
Like so many of the young players at Kenilworth Road, Michael continued his excellent progress during the 2004-05 season as the Hatters won the League One Championship with 98 points in a memorable season.
Although by no means a regular in the first-team, Michael certainly played his part as he made 8 League appearances (7 as a substitute), his only start of the season at senior level coming in a 1-2 home loss to Huddersfield Town in mid-October 2004, a match that saw Luton lose for the first time during the season after a remarkable start that saw them win their opening six matches.
It was in hindsight a highly successful season for Michael. He not only earned a Championship trophy as the Hatters romped to the League One Championship, but he also played a huge part in Luton Town’s Reserve side claiming the Pontins Holiday Combination Cup and the South East Pontins Holiday Combination League Championship, scoring 15 goals, a highly impressive tally from midfield.
Michael had a disappointing 2005-06 season as far as his career as a Luton Town player was concerned.
He made just one appearance at senior level for the Hatters, that coming in a 3-1 victory at Leyton Orient in the First Round of the League Cup. Unable to force his way into the first-team on a regular basis, he was loaned out to League Two side Bristol Rovers for two months in early September 2005 and he impressed for the Pirates, making 13 League appearances during his time at The Memorial Stadium.
Returning to Kenilworth Road, he spent just under two months back in Bedfordshire before joining League One strugglers Walsall on loan until the end of the season. In just his third appearance at The Bescot Stadium, Michael bagged his first goal for the club, scoring the opener in a 2-0 FA Cup Third Round replay victory over League One rivals Barnsley.
However, in his 15 League appearances for The Saddlers, Michael was unable to help them avoid relegation and his second Walsall goal could have come in better circumstances - a late consolation in a 1-3 home loss to Huddersfield Town, a result that saw Walsall relegated to League Two.
Back at Kenilworth Road for the 2006-07 season, Michael was rewarded with a new one-year contract and he will be looking to force his way into manager Mike Newell’s first-team on a regular basis in what is arguably going to be a make or break season for the tough-tackling midfielder.
Unable to break into the Luton Town side, Michael was loaned to League Two outfit Torquay United in November 2006 on the same day that the Hatters also loaned young goalkeeper Zac Barrett to Kettering Town.
Likely to gain some much needed first-team experience at Plainmoor, it was hoped that Michael wouldl return to Bedfordshire a better player for the experience of regular first-team football.
He was thrown straight into Torquay's side in a 0-1 loss at title chasers Walsall but, after just three appearances for The Gulls, he returned to Luton.
After over a month of reserve team football, Michael was out on loan again, this time at League One strugglers Brentford in January 2007.
He went on to make 17 appearances at Griffin Park, but he was unable to help The Bees avoid relegation to League Two. It was the second time in as many seasons that Michael had endured relegation from League One, after going down the previous season during a loan spell at Walsall.
A combative midfielder, Michael was booked an astonishing 11 times during his 20 senior appearances during the 2006-07 campaign.
Out-of-contract at the end of the season, Michael was informed by new Luton Town manager Kevin Blackwell that he would not be offered a new contract and he joined three other out-of-contract Hatters players - Danny Stevens, Peter Holmes and Shaun Ross in leaving the Kenilworth Road club.
He began the search for a new club after making a total of just 22 League appearances in five years for Luton Town after progressing through the youth ranks at Kenilworth Road and in July 2007, he signed for League Two side Barnet.
He spent two seasons at Underhill, making 50 League appearances and scoring 3 goals for the Bees, before he was released during the summer of 2009.
Looking for a new club, he was soon signed by his former Luton Town boss Mike Newell for Grimsby Town, penning a two-year deal at Blundell Park in July 2009.
