A young defender who can also operate in midfield, Ed progressed through Luton Town's youth system and was handed the number 32 squad number during an injury crisis in late January 2007.

The young defender possesses an abundance of pace and impressed manager Mike Newell with some steady performances for the Hatters Reserve side during the 2006-07 campaign and, with a number of defenders out injured, was handed a place on the substitutes bench for a clash at Coventry City in late January 2007.

Ed is of Ghanaian decent and his father is a region in Ghana. As a result, Ed has the rather unusual pleasure of being treated like royalty when he returns to Ghana!

Ed also enjoyed a loan spell at Isthmian League Premier Division side Walton & Hersham, making his debut for the Swans in March 2007 and scoring in a 1-0 win over Carshalton Athletic. He went on to make 7 appearances during his loan spell at Stompond Lane, playing at right-back and scoring 3 goals – an impressive tally for a full-back. Impressing the management immensely at Walton, the club would liked to have kept Edward on loan until the end of the season, but with the Hatters struggling with injuries, he was recalled to Kenilworth Road.

A highly rated young defender, Ed was rewarded with a one-year professional contract during the summer of 2007.

Speaking upon signing his professional contract with Luton Town, Ed said, "I played quite a few Reserve games and was involved in the first-team squad a few times, but you still never know what's going to happen.

"It's a different style of football when you step up. The temp is quicker and the passing and moving and everything else is more advanced.

"It's also a lot more physical, which is obviously something we have to work on being younger professionals.

"I can play at full-back or centre-half and I am quick. My lack of height doesn't help at centre-half, but I've got a good spring on me. I maybe need to improve my passing and when I'm on the ball, but we're always aiming to improve all aspects of our game."

Unable to break into the Luton Town side at the beginning of the 2007-08 season, Ed was loaned to Blue Square Premier side Salisbury City in mid-January 2008 by new Hatters manager Mick Harford, who had replaced Kevin Blackwell.

Linking up at The Raymond McEnhill Stadium with fellow Hatter Robert Sinclair – who had also joined The Whites on loan – Edward went straight into the side and made his debut in a 3-1 home win over Oxford United.

The Stevenage-based youngster continued to impress during his time with Salisbury and he went on to make 14 League appearances, during which time he earned several man-of-the-match accolades.

With Luton Town in administration, and heading for relegation to League Two, manager Mick Harford decided to recall Ed from his loan spell in late March, and Edward made his Luton Town debut in a 2-1 home victory over Crewe Alexandra just days after returning to Kenilworth Road.

Operating at right-back, Ed went on to make 7 League appearances for the Hatters, also playing in the centre of defence when asked to do so, and he looked a very good player, giving some mature performances for a young player in his first season as a professional.

During the summer of 2008, Ed was awarded a new deal, which he duly signed, despite interest from his former loan club, Salisbury City.

Ed made a big impact at Kenilworth Road during the 2008-09 campaign, making 19 League appearances as he established himself as a first-team regular. Appearing at both right-back and in the centre of the Hatters’ defence during the season, he gave a superb performance in the final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy as the Hatters shocked Scunthorpe United to claim a memorable 3-2 victory at Wembley Stadium in front of 40,000 Hatters fans.

Surprisingly strong in the air for someone who is not particularly tall for a central defender, Ed has made huge strides and is widely regarded as the next ‘big thing’ off the Kenilworth Road conveyor belt following the likes of Kevin Foley, Curtis Davies and Leon Barnett in recent seasons.

In June 2009, Ed signed a one-year extension to his contract, keeping him at Kenilworth Road until 2011 and he is expected to be a key figure as the Hatters aim to make an instant return to the Football League following relegation the previous season.
