Derek Peter

Ex-Director
Derek Peters

Derek became a director of the club in May 2004 after Bill Tomlins put together a consortium to take control of the club after the Hatters had spent an entire year in administrative receivership following the short and controversial reign of John Gurney in the summer of 2003.

Derek had previously worked for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club Plc and the football club in the 1980s and is a long-time friend of Bill Tomlins.  A financial director during his time at White Hart Lane, Derek was brought in with the specific purpose of floating Tottenham Hotspur onto the stock market - and he achieved that goal, making Spurs the first-ever club in Britain to float on the stock market.

Bill Tomlins put together a consortium that consisted of former director John Mitchell, who had played for Fulham and Millwall in the 1970s, Richard Bagehot, a lawyer who has worked in the sports and entertainment industry specifically for 27 years and Derek.

There are also two investors - Malcolm Gold, who has worked in the hotel industry, and Ken James, a banker who worked for eight years in New York.

Speaking on becoming a director, Derek said, "What we have done is we have purchased the club effectively; we have purchased the assets, the name and the goodwill and we've set up a new company which is now up and running.

"The old company is in administration and the Receiver will now finalise all of the issues that he's got and once he's done that he will put it into liquidation.

"The Football League share is being transferred to us today. The forms went back to the Football League yesterday and so they will have received them and hopefully we should get the formal shares back soon."

Derek spent two years as a board member at Luton Town before leaving the club following the arrival of David Pinkney as the new chairman.
