Chairman: John Tiernan A lot of people have heard of The Loyal Luton Supporters Club but it seems that most of our recent publicity has been negative, with people only speaking our name when it comes to various activities away from Kenilworth Road. So let me enlighten you, fellow supporters, of what we are really about, and what we really stand for. Our Club was formed in 1990, as a break-away group, when certain members of the official Luton Supporters’ Club thought that it was important to collectively air independent views, regarding certain issues, important to the fans. What was formed then was the nucleus of the Club that we have today. We always felt that the official Supporters’ Club towed the Club line regardless, and it was about time that an alternative voice was heard. So what we had was a good social crowd meeting on match days, and monthly, at the Brache Sparta Club, off Dallow Road, for what turned out to be some memorable, yet chaotic, times! Strong opinions were voiced, after most matches, and the ‘Depleated’ fanzine was created – in my, somewhat biased, opinion still the best Luton Town fanzine to have been! (Radical, yet fair and, of course, anti Kohler!) For, even then, we could see what was going to happen, having looked into his, somewhat dubious, past - Oh, the benefit of hindsight! Throughout these times, our support for the team was unwavering, but there were various conflicts regarding monies given to the Club via sponsorships, etc. (we have donated in the region of £25,000 over the last few years). We eventually ceased to donate any more funds, whilst Kohler was at the Club, apart from via our scheme, in conjunction with the Nat West Bank, to encourage young supporters’ to come to Kenilworth Road. On one of our many drunken evenings, we decided that it would be a good idea to form a Sunday football team. We were fed-up with teams like Celtic running top-class sides in this area, when our hometown Club had no representative team whatsoever. Starting 5 years ago in Division 7 of the North Home Counties League, we finished Champions in our first season and now start this season in Division 2, picking up various trophies along the way. The present team has the real ability to compete at the top level (i.e., we’re all too old to play now!), and we look forward to continued success. Having moved, 5 years ago, to the Kingsway Arms, we have now established our base at The Office pub, in Alma Street (very handy for those "Sorry I’m late, darling, I’m still at The Office" excuses) where we meet before and after all home games. Please feel free to call in if your interests are football, drinking, football, curries, football, partying or football. Our functions are renowned – the one we held at Mick Harford’s ‘Legends’, holds the record for the most bar takings in a night (and it was a Sunday!!) If for nothing more, it’s worth coming along just to hear the Club Song, at the end of the evening - even seasoned professionals have been known to stand open-mouthed! Let’s hope there are more excuses to celebrate under the new regime. We are an open Club and everyone is welcome to join - £5 gives you life membership, as well as a much sought after, extremely attractive, LLSC pin badge! |
